Shift Type Use Cases ① Overtime Work

- This help guide introduces the use cases of a shift type that applies the ‘Overtime Work’ option.

Do you need to submit an overtime request or manage overtime hours in particular?
If so, you can use ‘overtime work shift type’.
Shifts created with overtime work shift type are considered overtime work. The scheduled hours are calculated as overtime hours in a separate report column ‘Scheduled Overtime Shift hours’.

Please Note : Please be aware that the overtime work shift type feature works separately from the existing ‘overtime hours’!
Shiftee defines overtime as scheduled/worked hours exceeding employees' contractual hours. You can check overtime hours in the report.

Use the ‘overtime work’ shift type when certain shifts need to be scheduled separately to manage overtime hours, such as shift work or additional fieldwork.
You can aggregate data in a separate ‘Scheduled Overtime Shift Hours’ report column, making it easy to manage accumulated overtime hours.
1. Add a Shift Type that Applies the ‘Overtime Work’ Option
First, go to Manage > Shift Types menu and add a new shift type with the ‘Overtime Work’ option.
📢 Note
The type name and color set here will be displayed on the calendar when creating a schedule using this shift type.
2. Apply for Overtime Work by Sending a ‘Create Shift Request’
Now, let's apply for overtime work schedule using this shift type.
Employees can request to create a schedule with this ‘overtime work’ shift type as follows.
Create Shift Request > My template > choose ‘overtime work’ shift type and insert the time they need to apply for overtime.
All schedules created with this shift type will be counted as overtime work(also aggregated into separate ‘scheduled overtime shift hours’ column) in the report.
📢 Note
If employees need to work additional hours, they can adjust their work hours by sending an 'Edit Shift Request'.
3. Check the Overtime Work Schedule Reflected on the Calendar
Once the manager approves the request, you can check your schedule with the shift type name (‘field overtime work’) reflected on the calendar as follows.
In Case You Need to Work Additional Hours
In case employees need additional overtime hours, they can adjust their shifts via ‘Edit Shift Request’.
Check the Accumulated Overtime Hours
When shifts with overtime work shift type are scheduled, the report will count these hours as overtime.
‘Schduled overtime shift hours’ are accumulated as overtime hours, and you can view more detailed information by unit period.
(Note) Paid leave hours will not be deducted from the ‘scheduled overtime shift hours’.

▶︎ Shift type with 'overtime work' option
When using shift types with the ‘overtime work’ option, you can accumulate data separately for ‘scheduled overtime shift hours’ and manage overtime hours through this data.
All schedules created in this way will be calculated as overtime hours, which differs from the traditional method of calculating overtime hours based on the employee's contractual hours.
